Night Riding. Photo by Brighton Resort

Tucked high in the Wasatch Mountains, just 40 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, Brighton Resort holds the distinction of being one of Utah’s most enduring ski destinations. Since 1936, when local ski enthusiasts rigged up a rope tow with a mix of determination and engineering grit, Brighton has stayed true to its mission: help people reach the mountain and enjoy the ride down.

Today, Brighton’s welcoming spirit lives on with over 1,000 acres of terrain accessed by four high-speed lifts. Whether you're carving your first turns or hunting powder stashes, Brighton delivers a seamless mix of laid-back vibes and world-class skiing and snowboarding.

Terrain Overview

  • 66 named trails

  • 1,875 feet of vertical drop

  • 1,050+ skiable acres

  • Night skiing across 24 trails

  • 40-minute drive from Salt Lake City

From gentle cruisers to challenging steeps, Brighton’s layout offers something for every level. Beginners often start off the Explorer, Majestic, or Snake Creek lifts, while seasoned riders gravitate toward the Milly or Great Western zones for more advanced terrain and epic views.

Ski & Ride School

Brighton has long been known for its dedication to ski education. Many of the current instructors grew up in the program themselves — a true generational tradition.

  • Kids Programs: Starting at age 5, children can join group lessons or seasonal camps.

  • Adult Instruction: Brush up on your skills with group sessions, private coaching, or women-specific clinics.

No matter your age or experience, Brighton’s Snowsports School makes it easy and fun to progress.

A Terrain Park Mecca

Brighton’s terrain parks are legendary in the snowboarding world, drawing top-tier riders and freestyle fans from around the globe.

  • Majestic Park: The crown jewel with the largest collection of constantly evolving features

  • Candyland: Mellow and playful — ideal for intermediate and advancing riders.

  • My-O-My: Home to Brighton’s biggest jumps, this expert park is for the serious senders.

  • Pee-Wee Park: A beginner-friendly space with small jumps and boxes perfect for learning the ropes.

Bonus: Majestic and Candyland stay open under the lights for night park sessions.

Night Skiing Like No Other

Not an early riser? Brighton’s got your back with one of the best night skiing experiences in Utah. From Monday to Saturday, over 200 acres are lit up for twilight shredding, including select terrain parks. It’s the perfect way to get extra laps in without the morning rush.

Dining on the Mountain

Fueling up is easy at Brighton, thanks to its variety of dining spots:

  • Sidewinder Grill at Snake Creek Lodge: Mid-mountain hangout with hearty options like burgers, fries, and cheese curds.

  • Alpine Rose Cafeteria: Classic cafeteria fare just steps from the parking lot.

  • Molly Greens: A cozy sit-down A-frame with sweeping views and an upstairs bar for the 21+ crowd.

  • Milly Chalet: Conveniently located at Milly Express with walk-up eats like burritos, burgers, and the popular Doyle’s Dawgs.

  • Blind Miner Café: Grab-and-go options including coffee, tea, waffles, and bratwursts.

Getting There & Parking

  • Driving: Parking reservations are required Friday–Sunday and daily during peak holiday weeks (Dec. 21–Jan. 5). Plan ahead with the Reserve N’ Ski system.

  • Public Transit: Ride the UTA Ski Bus for free with a season pass, or hop on local shuttles like Cottonwood Connect.

  • Park-and-Ride Tip: Use the Holladay Park-N-Ride on busy days to avoid the canyon crowd.

Who Is Brighton For?

Brighton is a welcoming space for everyone — families, solo riders, seasoned locals, and first-timers. Its affordability, friendly energy, and inclusive mountain culture make it a beloved alternative to more commercial resorts. And while it’s skier-friendly, Brighton is often hailed as a snowboarder’s paradise.

Whether you're after deep powder, big jumps, or just a peaceful day on the slopes, Brighton delivers.
